Interested in Fair Trade and want to do more? Find out how...
College
- Stallholders are always looking for help in running stores, why not send yours an email?
- College doesn't have a stall? You could always start one up. You'll find that there are probably other people in your college who would be willing to help out. Email your JCR President and aks them to send out a whole college email advertising for helpers, then contact us for more advice.
- You could then always try taking things one step further and setting up a formal Fair Trade society in your college. It usually involves submititng a motion to an Open Meeting, again, email your JCR President for more info.
- With the funding you could get from being a society, there's loads you could do. Head over the the CUFTS forum for event ideas such as a Fair Trade tatsign evening or a Caribean/Fair Trade themed party with free chocolate samples at the door...
University
- Stand for a position on the Committe. Have a look at the committee page for information on the roles available, then put your name forward in Lent term if something takes your fancy. You could be in charge of running this website, co-ordinating college stalls or managing campaigns for a start..
- Contribute to the forums. One simple way to help the campaign is to simply talk. Discuss ideas on the forums and tell your friends about it to help spread the word...
Campaigns
- Buy Fairtrade! Buy Fairtrade coffee, bananas, oranges, mangoes, chocolate cake, chocolate and much, much, more! To find where your nearest Co-op store is, visit www.cooponline.coop.
- Ask for Fairtrade. If you can't find Fairtrade products in your local coffee shop or restaurant, ask for them!
- Tell others you don't support what they're doing. We want you to challenge the big coffee brands to pay growers a fair price. We estimate that if the three big roasters suppyling the UK paid a Fairtrade price for their brands, growers would be a least £50m a year better off! Send a letter to tell them exactly what you think. You'll find their address on the product pack.
- Join Oxfam's Make Trade Fair campaign at www.maketradefair.com. You'll get regularly updated information about what's happening on the world stage, you can add your name to those putting pressure on governments and the industry to improve the lot of coffee growers. It contains a campaigning toolkit too.
